Letting Jesus Change Me

We can count ourselves wise when we finally realize we can't change or control other people---only ourselves and our reactions to others. We are even more wise when we realize we sometimes, within our own power, don't have the ability to change our reactions to others. And we need help from someone greater than ourselves.

We will never be able to stop people from saying negative things--even lies or half truths--about us behind our backs. Our side of the story won't always be heard. Not everyone will like us. Our hearts won't always be seen. Some won't take the time to get to us before forming an opinion and passing judgment.

Sadly, the world has always been a judgmental place. Even the most perfect man to walk the earth was accused of things He didn't do, was slandered, and hated. Why would we be any better?

Jesus told the disciples, "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first."

John 15: 18

We can choose to cast all of our burdens on our Creator, live our best and most authentic lives, and let Him fight our battles for us. We can choose to let Him transform our minds, hearts and reactions to the criticism of others.

He is able when we are not.

He is strong when we are weak.

He fights while we rest.

He loves when we don't feel capable.

He gives grace when we least deserve it.

He changes everything.
