EXCITMENT! That's what I felt when given the opportunity to receive, read, and review The Shadow by Kimberly Rae. The cover of the book reads, "She fights human trafficking. Who would want to frame her for international crime?"
A few years ago, we connected with a couple, Adam and Leslie, who run a ministry helping to free women and children from sex trafficking. A home has been set up where the women and children can learn about Jesus, receive help, and learn a trade. When Adam spoke at our church, my heart was moved. I had no idea at the magnitude of human trafficking and what a bigger than me issue it is.
We got involved in helping Adam and Leslie's ministry, and they introduced us to another ministry called "Rahab's Rope," where rescued women in India make jewelry as a way to provide for themselves and their families. Our store, David Christopher's, purchases Rahab's Rope's jewelry for resell. The proceeds are given back to ministries fighting sex trafficking. So many of our customers love Rahab's Rope and the stories behind the jewelry. And they love knowing the purchase is supporting such an amazing cause.
Knowing the hands crafting the earrings and necklaces were once hands bound by the chains of horrific devastation is almost more than I can bear. It's when I realize those same hands are now FREE...I can breathe out, "Thank you, Lord." And now, thanks to these ministries, the heart connected to those hands has been told about a redeemer able to wash away all of their shame and pain. Wow!
Why do I tell you those details in my book review? When the Content Manager, Stephanie, with the agency I write reviews for sent out the opportunity to review this book, she wrote about Rahab's Rope. "Rehab's Rope is a part of the story line! What? How cool is that?"
To be honest, I hadn't heard of the author, Kimberly Rae, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I can safely say Kimberly Rae met and exceeded my expectations as she told the story of how Meagan Winston who works for Rahab's Rope is being stalked and framed for an international crime.
I read the book in two days. Every time I sat it down, I couldn't wait to pick it back up again to see what my "new friends" were doing. I felt so connected to the characters from the beginning. The Shadow is well written and flows from one chapter to the next as the story unfolds. I was able to envision every scene, every character, every thrilling part.
This book had all of my favorite components: mystery, crime, suspense, psychological twists, romance, and well developed characters. I was captivated. Toward the end, I found myself not wanting it to end, but when it did, I was so excited to see "Sneak Peek at THE RUNAWAY: BOOK TWO IN THE RAHAB'S ROPE TRILOGY."
Yay for trilogies!
Now, I can't wait to read the next two books. And I can't wait to see what all God has in store for the author. Her gift and talent is evident. I'm so happy she chose to share it with us!
